There’s no denying it, Christmas is well on it’s way. Forget that it’s only November, at Yours Clothing HQ, the Christmas music is already on and the excitement is building!
With the cold wintry nights drawing in and the fairy lights twinkling away, what better way to count our way down to Christmas than with some of the most iconic films?!
To get us into the festive spirit, we’ve compiled a list of our twelve favourites that we’ll be watching this holiday season.

1. The Grinch
Undoubtedly one of the best Christmas films around, The Grinch is one of those ‘classics’ that everyone needs to watch.
Evolved from the beloved Dr. Seuss tale, the Grinch is set in the cheery town of Whoville, and follows the reclusive green Grinch (Jim Carrey) who lives in the mountaintop. Adamant that he will ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of his town, the Grinch, joined by his unfortunate dog, Max, sneak into the town to steal everything holiday-related . However, his evil plans are hitched when he encounters and befriends the endearing Cindy Lou Who.
2. Love Actually
With a stellar cast including, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Bill Nighy, Keira Knightley and many more, Love Actually is one of those feel-good films that will have you feeling gooier than a toasted marshmallow.
Billed as the ultimate festive rom-com, Love Actually follows eight intertwined stories in the lead up to Christmas. Jammed with stories, drama, laughter and heartache, we watch as each character deciphers their way through their personal relationships as they explore the one emotion that connects us all: love.
3. Home Alone
A true classic, the original Home Alone is one of the best festive comedies. Set in the McCallister household, bratty eight-year-old, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), is forced to sleep in the attic after acting out the night before the family head to Paris for Christmas. The following day, as his family mistakenly go on their trip without him, Kevin awakens to an empty house, where he assumes his wish to have no family has come true. However, this excitement soon fizzles when he realises that two con men plan to rob his family home, where it’s down to him alone to protect it.
4. Elf
Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) has been accidentally transported to the North Pole as a toddler, where he has been raised amongst Santa’s elves. Adamant that he doesn’t fit in, Buddy travels to New York at Christmas time in search of his real father. Unfortunately for him, he stumbles across a cynical businessman, Walter Hobbs. After a DNA test proving their relationship, Walter reluctantly starts a relationship with Buddy, which leads to chaotic results.
5. The Holiday
If you are a fan of Love Actually, then you are sure to enjoy The Holiday. Another brilliant festive rom-com with another whopping cast…what’s not to love?
The story revolves around two women, Iris (Kate Winslet) and Amanda (Cameron Diaz), who exchange houses in search of a new lease of life. After suffering their fair share of romantic disappointments, they discover love halfway across the globe whilst on their house exchange. For Iris, she becomes acquainted with an upbeat everyman, Miles (Jack Black), while Amanda falls for Iris’s dashingly handsome brother, Graham (Jude Law). Both women then face the tumultuous decision of what to do with their new relationships as Christmas approaches and the house swap comes to an end.
6. Nativity
Hilariously ridiculous, Nativity follows the story of a failed actor who has turned to teaching in a primary school. Unfortunately for him, he is given the mundane task of directing the school’s Nativity play. Unmotivated and un-enthused, his attitude soon changes when it’s rumoured that a Hollywood producer is due to come and watch the play.
7. Deck the Halls
Starring the iconic Danny DeVito, Deck the Halls is the hilarious Christmas comedy which follows Steve – suburban dad and Christmas lover – who finds himself threatened with the arrival of a new neighbour. Danny (DeVito), has big dreams to illuminate his house with enough lights for it to be visible from space. Not to be outdone, Steve declares a competition of one-upmanship with Danny that threatens to ruin the true spirit of Christmas.
8. Christmas with the Kranks
Starring the hilarious Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen, Christmas with the Kranks follows Luther and Nora, who, after happily celebrating Christmas their entire lives, finally face the prospect of a very lonely holiday when their daughter, Blair, heads to Peru. Planning to avoid the Christmas traditions and take a cruise in the Caribbean, the Kranks soon find themselves in trouble after their Christmas-obsessed neighbours tackle them in the annual decoration competition and they receive an unexpected call from Blair.
9. Four Christmases
Hilariously funny, Four Christmases depicts the prospective horrors that can arise when visiting the ‘in-laws’ at Christmas time.
After their plans for an exotic vacation fall part, unmarried couple Brad (Vince Vaughn) and Kate (Reese Witherspoon) are forced to spend Christmas Day circulating around each other’s families. While Brad counts down the minutes until he can escape his relatives, Kate begins to ponder her own actions and whether her family are really as ‘crazy’ as she once thought.
10. The Polar Express
Another classic, Tom Hanks pulls off an incredible performance in the animated film, The Polar Express. Evolved from the inspiring children’s book, it follows the story of a doubting young boy who embarks on a magical adventure of self-discovery. Taking an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he learns about friendship, bravery and discovers the true spirit of Christmas.
11. The Nightmare Before Christmas
Disney films are always a hit at Christmas time. Heart-warming and feel-good, they’re great for curling up on the sofa with the kids on a lazy Sunday afternoon.
This magical movie follows the misadventures of Jack Skellington – Halloweentown’s beloved pumpkin king – who has become bored of the same annual routine of frightening people in the “real world.” When he accidentally stumbles through a portal to Christmastown – which is filled with warm spirits and vibrant colours – he discovers a new lease of life. Excitedly plotting to kidnap Santa Claus and take over the role, he soon discovers that even the best plans can have awry and comical consequences.
12. Gremlins
Another classic yet obscure film, Gremlins is at the top as one of the best Christmas films.
When shopping for a special gift for his son, a gadget salesman stumbles across a ‘mogwai’ in Chinatown. Reluctant to sell if to him, the shopkeeper warns to never expose him to bright light, water, or to feed him after midnight. Obviously, all of this happens, resulting in a gang of gremlins who decide to tear up the town on Christmas Eve.
